Reverse discrimination : An actual thing ?

Good afternoon. A few posts ago, I told you guys about unconscious bias. You can find that post here. Tip : Don't read that article without reading this one.

In this post, I'll be telling you about reverse discrimination, which is in the same family as unconscious bias. The terrible family of Prejudice.

According to the Cambridge dictionary, the word discrimination means :

Treating a person or particular group of people differently, especially in a worse way from the way in which you treat other people, because of their skin colour, sex, sexuality, etc.

According to our good friend the Cambridge Dictionary once again, the word reverse means :

To change the direction, order, position, result, etc. of something to its opposite.

So would reverse discrimination mean discrimination against someone socially

privileged ? ( e.g. someone, white, male, cisgender, heterosexual, etc.) Exactly.

So reverse discrimination is favouring members of groups that have been previously discriminated, like people of colour, members of the queer community, women, etc.

So is reverse discrimination necessarily a good thing ? Or should it only be used temporarily, until all people are equal ?

Feel free to email us or tell us in the comments. We'd love to hear from you.

- Saskia ;)
