More than 2 million spectators have flocked to cinemas since their reopening in France

There were obviously many who wanted to meet in a dark room. More than two million spectators returned to cinemas in France during their first week of reopening, according to figures released Wednesday, May 26 by CBO-Box Office. This performance is all the more notable given that after seven months of closure, theaters are subject to a 35% gauge and curfew at 9 p.m.

For comparison, the same week of May in 2019, before the pandemic, cinemas had welcomed 2.4 million spectators, and last August, when the blockbuster Tenet was released, they attracted 2.3 million.

Albert Dupontel's comedy Adieu les Cons, which had made a very promising start before seeing his career suspended by confinement, is returning to success. The film, crowned since by seven Caesar, attracted more than 500,000 spectators. The novelties take pride of place over the rest of the box-office: the manga for teenagers Demon Slayer, made 350,000 entries
